Gut Check: Start Training Your Tummy

September 5, 2019

Not only does sugar put holes in your teeth, we’re learning more about how it may be putting holes in your gut. Consuming this form of carbohydrate needs to be trained right out of you!  So, put down that cake!

Easier said than done, but if you think of sugar consumption as a cause of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Functional Bowel Disease, SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) as well as Yeast infections in the digestive system, and the leading cause of inflammation, then you just might be able to start training your gut as an expression of your will to thrive.

Training your gut to be healthy involves incorporating food that feeds the good bacteria in your gut, while starving the bad bacteria and fungus that cause distress. These organisms make up most of your human body, and have come to be known as your microbiome. Eating is what trains your biome to flourish or falter, even at the finish line.

What endurance athletes teach us about GI distress is invaluable. In a recent study of ultra marathoners who were forced to drop out before the finish line, more sited GI distress than injury, blisters, cramps and exhaustion combined. Less than one percent sited lack of training. Finishing strong takes more than endurance, it takes guts! Practicing game day nutrition during long training cycles is a must. What game day nutrition plan are you following?

At PHASE IV we focus on gut health nutrition training not only for our clinical patients, but for our athletes as well. If you would like to learn more about training your gut and reducing symptoms of GI distress, give us a call or send us an email and we will help take the guess work and complexities out of eating right for life.
