1. A new study shows drinking wine may reduce your lifespan

You may want to rethink your daily glass of wine. A new study published in the Lancet Medical Journal shows that drinking 3 glasses of wine a night can reduce your lifespan by up to two years and that any more than 5 glasses of wine a week can increase your risk of stroke, fatal aneurysm, heart failure and death..  (The Guardian)

 

2. Your morning meal may be sabotaging your weight loss goals

According to a new study in the American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism eating before a morning workout can slow down the rate at which fat is burned in the body because it will utilize the food just eaten as fuel instead of stored fat.  (Well & Good)

 

3. The gut may hold the answer to depression and Parkinson’s

Researches have discovered significant differences between the microbiomes of people diagnosed with depression and Parkinson’s disease versus those that are healthy . This may show promising results for a new form of treatment coined “mood biotics” or “psychobiotics”.    (BBC)

 

4. Zero calorie doesn’t mean zero weight gain

A new study shows how zero-calorie sweeteners, including Splenda, may cause negative biochemical changes in the body, affecting the cells that line the blood vessels and also how the body processes fat and gets energy. (PopSugar)

 

5. Scientists may have discovered the fountain of youth

In a time when anti-aging creams, botox and facial massages are continuously getting the spotlight for their anti-aging benefits, researchers have recently discovered an antioxidant that targets mitochondria in the body and can turn back the clock on blood vessels as much as 15-20 years. (Science Daily)

 

6. Strenuous exercise may not suppress the immune system after all

Despite a study in the 1980s that showed an increase in colds and flus for marathoners and ultramarathoners in the days and weeks following their races, new research is shedding light on strenuous exercise actually bolstering immunity. (NYT)
