PHASE IV STAFF

CEO ROBERT FORSTER, PT

SPORTS MEDICINE PHYSICAL THERAPIST / PERFORMANCE SPECIALIST / CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR Robert Forster’s career in Santa Monica spans 9 Olympic Games. Bob is a graduate of the University of New York at Stony Brook, and co-author of two books: Healthy Running Step by Step and The Complete Waterpower Workout Book. His elite athletes have captured 60 Olympic Medals, Wimbledon, Grand Slam, Wrestling, NBA, and MMA World Champion titles. He made history in Rio with Gold Medalists: Allyson Felix, whose crutches to Olympic Gold journey made her the most decorated USA sprinter of all time, and with Helen Maroulis, the first USA women to win Olympic Gold in Wrestling. When a student asked what inspires him most Bob replied, “The miraculous human body, and safe effective fitness programs for everyone!”

TINA PAYMASTER

NUTRITION SPECIALIST & FUNCTIONAL HEALTH COACH Tina Paymaster is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and Ayurvedic Practitioner, who guides people towards achieving long-term health in mind and body. Through her guidance, Tina’s clients learn how to eat the right foods for their body type and goals, develop a healthier relationship to food and their body, incorporate healing self-care practices and approach their life from a more confident, empowered and peaceful frame of mind. Through her own health journey, extensive training, and experience working in clinical settings, Tina has supported clients suffering from digestive disorders, weight challenges, hormonal imbalances, skin issues, stress, anxiety and fatigue. Tina works with clients around the world, holds workshops in New York City and Los Angeles and has been featured in MindBodyGreen, Shape Magazine, and Elephant Journal.

SHELBY STONER

EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST Shelby Stoner, M.S., E.P is the newest Exercise Physiologist to join the PHASE IV team, and a graduate of Adelphi University in Long Island, New York. She moved to New York from Anchorage, Alaska to attend school at Adelphi and major in Exercise Science. Shelby played volleyball for Adelphi, an NCAA Division II University, throughout her undergraduate career claiming two Northeast-10 Championships and four NCAA tournament appearances. After graduating with her BS in Exercise Science, she went on to complete her Masters in Exercise Physiology while working in the Exercise Science Department at Adelphi gaining experience in metabolic testing and working with elite athletes.At PHASE IV, Shelby implements and analyzes Resting Metabolic Rate and VO2 Tests to develop programs based on each client’’s unique physiology and personal goals.  Since moving to California, Shelby looks forward to continuing her beach volleyball career and enjoying warm weather year round!

RON BERRY, P.T.

DIRECTOR OF REHAB SERVICES Ron has been a Physical Therapist since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from California State University, Long Beach in 1990. Prior to that, he attended U.C. Santa Cruz and worked as a massage therapist. He has worked with Robert Forster since 1993 treating a variety of diagnoses. Upon the opening of the new clinic in 1996 he helped develop the aqua therapy program. He has also worked on developing periodized training programs with athletes at Phase IV, the Scientific Training & Performance Center, since it’s inception in 2002. Since then he has returned to treating a variety of diagnoses out of the water, as well. Ron keeps active and fit through a variety of sports and hobbies. He is an active member of the physical therapy professional association, the APTA, and continues to enhance his skills through educational seminars.

BRIAN PONSNESS, PTA

EXERCISE AND REHAB SPECIALIST Brian is a graduate of Pima Medical Institute in Seattle, Washington. After graduating in 2010 Brian joined the Forster Physical Therapy and Phase IV team of practitioners. Brian is an avid cyclist and adventure sport enthusiast.

MATT LARKIN

EXERCISE SPECIALIST Matt Larkin, NASM, NCSF, joined Phase IV and Forster Physical Therapy in July of 2017 after working as a Certified Personal Trainer in San Francisco for over 7+ years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having specialized in TRX group training, working with tech company CEO’s, and training athletes during his time in the bay area. A lifelong athlete himself, Matt looks forward to developing dynamic group fitness courses at Phase IV while developing his skills for implementing metabolic testing and coaching. Outside of work, Matt enjoys an active lifestyle of hiking, golfing, staying fit, and keeping up with his favorite professional sports teams.

LAUREL FRESQUEZ

MASSAGE THERAPIST / PHYSICAL THERAPY AIDE After graduating from Long Beach State, Laurel started the Sports Rehab Therapy program at Fremont College in 2012, and began her internship at Forster Physical Therapy. In 2014 Laurel graduated with S.R.T. and Massage Therapy Certifications and began working with the Forster Physical Therapy and PHASE IV team as a Physical Therapy Aide and Massage Therapist

RON BERRY, PT 

PT MASTER PHYSICAL THERAPIST / DIRECTOR OF WATER REHABILITATION Ron grew up in Santa Monica. He worked with Bob Forster as an aide during the 1984 Olympics. After attending Santa Monica City College, Loyola Marymount (on a music scholarship), and UC Santa Cruz (where he fostered his love of bicycling, big trees, and massage) , he went to Cal State Long Beach for Physical Therapy school and began his career as a licensed physical therapist in 1990. He’s worked in various communities in Maine, South Carolina, and California, including: Seal Beach, Long Beach, and Oakland.He has been working with Forster Physical Therapy since 1996 developing experience over many thousands of physical therapy visits, honing his skills as a manual therapist and teacher of efficient movement.He has been a part of the PHASE IV team since it’s inception and has been an integral part of developing many of the PHASE IV scientific health and performance programs, programs he’s utilized himself as an avid recreational athlete in a variety of sports…

BRIAN PONSNESS, PTA

RACHEL SUSON, DPT

Rachel has been part of the Forster Physical Therapy Team since 2009. After graduating from the University of California – Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physiological Sciences, Rachel began her career a physical therapy aide. From there, she moved on to Phase IV applying her bachelor’s education to practical application of exercise physiology, working with both weekend warriors and professional athletes to reach their optimal performance. Rachel returned to FPT in 2016 having graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Mount St. Mary’s University. Besides orthopedics and sports, her clinical experience includes working with Brain Injury, geriatrics, and Home Health. Rachel is an avid practitioner of martial arts with a background in judo, jujitsu, the Korean art Kuk Sool Won, and most extensively, capoeira. She practices and teaches in her off-time while also exploring different movement practices such as dance, yoga, hiking, and cycling. Rachel is excited to continue to be a part of the FPT team, while learning and expanding her skills through educational seminars.
