The PHASE IV approach to health and fitness involves guided exercise and an easy-to-follow, “close-to-the- earth” diet. Both are designed for one singular goal: metabolic efficiency—to make you a better butter burner.
But where do you start? How DO YOU construct a dietary program that addresses your unique personal physiology, genetics, lifestyle, and metabolism? Our thorough understanding of the intricate synergistic relationship between nourishment, lifestyle, exercise and enhanced metabolic function, will result in a science based program that defines exactly how to fuel your body, and the exact calories you need to fuel your workouts and lifestyle while managing your weight goals.

WHAT IS A METABOLIC SCORE?
Scientific metabolic testing is the foundation of exercise and nutrition science. This testing lets us see what is happening inside your body during exercise, and at rest. From this data we create accurate heart-rate training zones and nutritional guidance to assure all your workouts and daily activities are fueled properly, and are 100% productive toward your weight management goals with no wasted efforts.As exercise intensity increases so does your heart rate. As your heart rate increases your body’s preferred energy source shifts from primarily burning fat to burning carbohydrate. By exercising or training in the proper heart rate zone you will teach your body to burn more fat and less carbohydrate; lowering lactic acid levels, cortisol, and fatigue.
Proper heart rate training replaces random workouts and is essential to optimizing the effort/reward ratio of your exercise and nutrition plan. VO2 testing provides the most precise exercise heart rate zones; however, when that test is not available or appropriate for you, we will use your Metabolic Score to improve your performance, health, and weight control.
Metabolic Score: PHASE IV uses a scientific method for calculating metabolic efficiency and development.
Based on an initial consultation with a PHASE IV Nutritionist and Exercise Physiologist, you may be guided through a walking or running field test. This is a simple exercise, and it may be accompanied by an additional instructional video. The results of the field test optimize your exercise efforts by ensuring you are not doing too much, too hard, too often, and help produce the most productive heart rate exercise zones to develop your metabolic efficiency: your fat burning potential.
In addition to your consultation and the results of your field tests, a variety of physical indicators will be measured to produce the starting point for your nutrition program.
Your PHASE IV team will design an individualized daily heart rate zone exercise or training schedule which will include intensity, duration, and frequency. You will work with a personal performance specialist and exercise physiologist to be sure that your program is peaking your metabolic fitness and weight management control with the same periodization principles we apply to elite athletes.
